Interesting article on Popeye in Salon- which showcases the earlier Popeye comic strips. Those early strips show Popeye almost as a Cagney character, a bruiser with an attitude. I wonder how much he was a model for Orson Welles's sailor in the Lady from Shanghai.

I used to watch it all the time. What was her name now - Olive Oil? And you should always eat up your spinach, Tiberius, so you grow up big and strong.
Thanks for the reccomendation James- I actually rather like spinach. According to the article spinach was a later development for Popeye.
