Leeds United

Just a little note to say that I've just published an article on the decline and fall of Leeds United over at Bits of News- not sure its any good, being a fan of the said football club, the last years have been hard and writing an article about it tends to inspire only depression- oh well for those that are interested, click the link. (Its definitely not up there say with Mr Hamilton's rigorous analysis of football.)

That's cruel, Tiberius. My ancestral home is 17 miles from Leeds and so Peter Lorrimer's and Billy Bremner's boys are close to the heart.

Well I knew you had taste- yeah despite being a Londoner my Dad was a Leeds boy and I was brought up to respect the now less than mighty whites. Its been a bad time to be a Leeds fan- the ammount of teasing that's come my way over the last couple of seasons from friends who support London clubs and others further afield is ridiculous- Rob I'm looking at you. Ah well...

OK, so I'm guilty of a bit of teasing. Are you saying that if The Proper United suffered the same misfortune I wouldn't have been subject to cackles of derision from the Gracchi brothers?

It's just a part of what football is all about. And if you're looking for a silver lining, here's my best effort:

That Leeds team of 2001 were good. But everyone hated them - largely because they were a bunch of arrogant little thugs (barring Smudger The Red, of course). At least all this misfortune for Leedscum means that the natural British support for the underdog might make you a likable club...
