Mark Malloch Brown

Amongst the more interesting appointments on Gordon Brown's first day in office was that of Mark Malloch Brown to become Minister for Africa Asia and the United Nations. Malloch Brown has never worked in government before- he has worked for the United Nations for many years though and was the target of ire from the right in the United States- with the succession of the unaggressive David Milliband to the Secretary of State job at the FCO- Malloch Brown's appointment seems to be to be a symbol of the way that actually British foreign policy may develop less Blairite tendencies over the next couple of years and be more independent of the United States- we shall see...
