Tom Lehrer - Wernher von Braun

A great man who didn't broadcast many songs- here live singing of Werner von Braun. A great song as well- take it away Mr Lehrer!

That was...unique

Great stuff; the man's a genius. Gave away show business to study mathematics - that, I would tentatively suggest, just might be unique.

He is fantastic- amongst my favourites- I wish he had done more despite the mathematics- because some of them are brilliant. The Vatican Rag is stunning and poisoning pigeons in the park great as well.

A genius indeed. Thank you for reminding me of him.

Thanks so much for digging this up, Henry - Tom Lehrer is fantastic, and I had never seen a video of him...

So far as I know, he didn't entirely give up show biz for mathematics - his last academic job (at the Univesity of California, Santa Fe??), was a joint appointment in mathematics and... performance studies!

Now that I'm back from blogging exile, I've linked to the Lehrer clip and added a clip from the equally brilliant Georg Kreisler (in German, I'm afraid...) over at aeuropeanview
